Henry Günther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, also known as H.G. Ademola or simply Ademola, is a Nigerian author who has written extensively on history, politics and current affairs. In recent years, his work has focused on the Niger Delta region and its people. Born in Calabar in 1960, Ademola attended university in Nigeria and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria in 1988. There he worked as a journalist for several years, writing for such publications as New Statesman and Africa Confidential. In 2001 he published his first book, Sons of the Niger Delta: A History of the Igbo People. This was followed by two more books,
The Rape of Democracy (2002) and The Case of General Sani Abacha (2004). His most recent book is Blood Brothers: The Epic Story of the Yoruba Slave Trade (2015), which tells the story of how Yoruba people were kidnapped and enslaved by Europeans in West Africa. As a youngster, Samuel played for various local clubs in his home country before moving to Germany to join SC Freiburg’s youth academy in 2003. After impressing with the Regionalliga side, SC Freiburg decided to offer Samuel a professional contract and he made his Bundesliga debut on September 15th, 2006 against 1. FC Nürnberg.

He has also played for Dutch sides FC Twente and Vitesse Arnhem, English clubs Birmingham City and Ipswich Town, Belgian outfit KV Oostende, and Slovenian outfit NK Maribor.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Samuel moved to the Netherlands at the age of six and spent time with youth teams at FC Twente and Vitesse Arnhem before making his senior debut with Birmingham City in 2010. He joined Ipswich Town on loan in January 2013 but was recalled by Birmingham the following month after suffering an ankle injury. He joined KV Oostende on a permanent transfer later that year.
In February 2015, Samuel signed for Slovenian side NK Maribor on a four-and-a-half-year contract.
