Students looking to enroll in undergraduate degrees in the US appear for their SAT Exam. Most of the colleges in the US require SAT for admission to undergraduate courses. There are two types of SAT exams. SAT 1, referred to as the Scholastic Assessment Test, is required to be taken by students seeking admission to undergraduate schools. It is a general test developed to evaluate candidates’ written, verbal and mathematical skills.

SAT Exam Syllabus

The first section of the SAT exam is Evidence-based Reading and Writing, further divided into SAT writing and language and SAT reading. The second section includes Mathematics. These sections are explained below.

Evidence-based Reading and Writing
Writing and Language Section
This section contains passages of 44 questions. The time duration to complete the questions is 35 minutes. All the passages are based on articles or write-ups related to Science, History & Social Studies, Humanities, and Careers.
Few passages may contain graphs, charts, and tables. Questions in this section are based on-
- Sentence Structure and Grammar
- Word choice regarding text, tone, and style
- Sentence Correction
Candidates need to be familiar with these topics, as it will help them answer the questions as directed and build their confidence.
Reading Section
The Reading section of SAT Exam Syllabus 2022 is 65 minutes long. Candidates need to attempt 52 multiple-choice questions. These questions require a candidate to analyze and interpret the information from the passages.
Passages in this section are single or infographic-based, utilizing charts, tables, and graphs based on –History/Social Sciences, the US and World Literature, and Science. This section includes five evidence-based passages. There are three types of questions – Factual, Rhetorical, and Synthesis. Candidates need to be careful while attempting the questions.

Mathematics Section
The section is divided into two sub-sections – Maths with Calculator and Maths without Calculator. The section contains 58 questions that are to be completed in 80 minutes. The ‘No Calculator’ section has 15 MCQs and 5 Grid-ins, whereas there are 30 multiple-choice questions and 8 Grid-ins in the’ Calculator’ section. Out of 58 questions, 80% are MCQs, and 20% of questions are student-produced response questions, widely known as Grid-ins.
In Grid-ins, the candidate has to solve the questions, provide the answer, and then fill in the answer in the OMR sheet. Candidates will also be provided with a cheat sheet containing all the formulas. The questions in this section include the following topics –
